Exercise #4

Google Docs

What is Google docs??  Many of you have been asking this and some of you have already had file shared with you through Google Docs.

Simply put...Google Docs is a place 'in the cloud' to store, share, and modify documents.

The document type can vary from a spreadsheet (much like an Excel document) to a text-based file (much like a Word document).

It is a way for many people to make changes to a document and also to share it with a group of people rather than emailing to each person.  It also ensures that everyone is looking at and working with the most recent version of a document.  Changes can be made and saved in real time so that another person viewing the document sees those changes.

Click the link below and explore the Google docs topics.  Then take the quiz and review the wrong answers.

Exercise #2: Cut, copy, paste

A very helpful tool to learn for basic computing is "copy, cut, and paste".

This is just what it sounds like: you can copy text, or cut it out, and paste it somewhere else!

Think about how you would do this with actual scissors and glue and now imagine that you can virtually do it on a computer.

The following tutorial shows how this is done in Microsoft Word:

You can use these tools in nearly every environment, not just Microsoft Word.

Try to copy the text below and paste it into the comment box. Be sure to publish the comment so I can see it.

Welcome!

Welcome to Intermediate Computers! I'm glad you are here...let's get started!

This is our class "blog". Blog is a nickname for "web log". In other words, it is a virtual journal of sorts that anyone online can access and interact with. You will find blogs on any given topic out there, some with a few followers and some with millions of followers.

Readers or followers of blogs can post comments while the editors of blogs can post content. I am the editor of our blog and you, the students in the course, are the followers. Try posting a comment below to this saying hello!
